For Spring 2007, Sassy Thai harvests the festive and beautiful spirit of Royal Flora Ratchaphruek, an exposition of gardens celebrating Thailand’s King Bhumibol’s 80th birthday and the 60th anniversary of his accession to the throne. The Royal Gardens are filled with 110 exposition gardens – 30 international gardens and 80 domestic – featuring the flora of our beautiful planet.

Flowers and plant culture are integral to Thai tradition and lifestyle. In the décor that stratifies a status-oriented society, living and cut flowers abound and the stylized foliated motifs of lai patterns play a significant role in distinguishing Thai design. Flowers and floral design are a central theme in extending tribute to Buddha, spirits, Hindu gods, royalty and beloved friends and family.

In this spirit, Sassy Thai blossoms with (Thai names are in italics) roses (goo laap), jasmine (dokmali), orchids (gluay maai), hibiscus (chábaa), sunflowers (taan dtawan), and silver leaf/gold leaf. Delicate petals, winding stems, leaves that curl and wend, pollen-filled stamen appear in beaded appliqués, lacy tapestries and decorative paintings on our jeans, jackets and tops (in satin, crochet, polyester and cotton).

You may have already visited the Sassy Thai website to see the Spring Collection, full of neutral and elegant colors (ivory on white, gold, silver, black and white laces on white, dark wash, and regular wash denim), bright and fun multicolors in paint and hand-sewn embroidery on our jeans and jackets. We are offering more fabrics in our selection of tops – the elegance of satin/chiffon, gold and metallics, crochet and, of course, our signature cotton with lace.

Customers seem to love the ability to have tops, jackets and jeans that repeat a unique combination of designs and pictorals.

Sassy Thai begins its third year with happy optimism. We doubled our production in 2006, growing to more than 300 boutiques in the U.S., Europe and South Africa. We bring the handcrafted arts and lush, colorful designs of small Thai villages to small, unique boutiques. We are trying hard to create our unique products and to offer personalized services to our customers.

In that spirit, I very much want to hear from you. Please feel free to call me anytime between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Central Time, or email me at Titima@SassyThai.com.

Our production operation has grown with the company – we are now working with more than 1,000 crafters in Thailand, all individual workers creating and applying our designs in their homes and village gathering places, organized according to skills. One garment may travel to one village for painting, another for beading and yet another for reassembly before shipping to America. The people I am privileged to work with in keeping the network of crafters together are like old friends as we work to bring a fair wage and meaningful, creative employment to our fellow Thai citizens.

With visions of the 2006 holiday season still ringing in our heads, we are starting to design for Fall and Winter 2007. We have several pieces already sampled and will give you a sneak preview at the February WWIN show in Las Vegas. Hand-Woven Thai fabrics and detailed embroidery play a significant role. Black with various colors – silver, turquoise, brown and gold will be predominant. Share your ideas with me – I will travel to Thailand several times to visit my family and friends this year, and we can make things happen. If you have a specific yearning for something very special, let us know – all of our garments are custom made and we are quite willing to develop a custom design.

Thank you for your business, for representing Sassy Thai in your neighborhood of our beautiful planet, and for being our friends. It’s a new year and a new beginning – we wish you a happy and prosperous 2007.
